The wait is over! The City of New Westminster has approved VMAR's Riverside Raceway for another year of action-packed off-road racing. We are obviously, extremely excited about this, and want to get things rolling as quickly as we can. There are numerous upgrades planned for the facility including a new driving surface, pit area, covered driver's stand, and fencing to keep the site secure. To kick things off, we are hosting a meeting for people to come see our plans, and to become involved in the project. This track is going to be built by racers, for racers, so it's really up to all of us to contribute what we can to the project. This meeting will be held on Sunday, April 9 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Queensborough Community Center. To get a taste of the plans for the track, please visit www.vmar.ca. We have posted a preliminary design along with a lot more detail on the project.

There are pretty extensive upgrades planned for the track, and we anticipate that the new facility will attract a good deal of sponsorship. Membership fees will ultimately end up being defined by the balance of features we agree on building minus income from sponsorship, race fees, and so forth.

Iam asking all members and nonmembers to please come to the meeting on sunday to get the ball rolling, what we have planned for this facility is going to take everyones help and I can tell you it will not be cheap.I made a couple of calls today to get an idea what things might cost at nonsponsored prices.290 yards of clean dirt $5000.00 145 yards of gravel for drainage $3200.00 450 of chain link fence 6' high $4300.00 installed. This is alot of money,so I think we all need to get out there and see if we can pick up some sponsors,at the meeting we will have some sponsorship letters for anyone that would like to go out and find sponsors. We will be going to hobby stores for sponsorship as well.I would also like to see members and future members Donate some cash, I will be donating $100.00 and if all members could do the same we would get off to a good start. We are also looking for a 8'X20' metal cargo container for the drivers stand and storage.See ya all at the meeting on sunday. _________________ Savage 25 is gone,Hellfire is here.

Just wanted to add that you should specify that you would like for people to come help on SUNDAY only because CAM RC has an off-road race scheduled for Saturday, and I'm sure that vmar wasnts to respect one of their mission statements that say: (quote from: www.vmar.ca/offroadmain.htm)

We are well aware that Cam rc is racing on saturdays, and we respect that, all we are asking is that if there is any rc guys or gals that are not going to be racing on saturday maybe they might like to come out to RiverSide Raceway to help out with the track. I would love to come out there and race but until the end of july Iam working 7 days a week,I go to riverside to help with the track after work and take the odd sunday off to help out.I hope to get out there some time after july to race with you guys.

I'll try to make it out for a few hours to shovel some dirt... on Sunday that is. Lets just make sure to not draw people away from racing and maybe somebody can put up the race schedule of CAM Rc on the Vmar site and vice versa once the time comes.

I have no problem with that.I will try and post the Cam RC schedule tonight or tomorrow.I think both tracks should work together to bring quality off-road racing to the lower mainland.I think we should also talk about starting some kind of points series between the two tracks if not for this year, next year. I think that would be cool and we would get drivers out to both tracks, the winners of the series would get bragging rights and a trophy.Let me know what you think.Bob

Yea, that certainly needs to be discused... all the contact info on camrc is on www.camrc.ca You should contact the president of camrc and he's going to pass everything down to the rest of the camrc board and members. I think, based on experience, whatever the racers want, that's what's going to happen in terms of a racing schedule that will benefit everyone racing and both tracks as well.
