Hey hardshaft, you doubted my work, take a look at this puppy, it's bomb proof! Well, my old workbench was about 3 times older then me, so i figured I should build a new one. First, I designed this one: Then, we found out how much the cost of steel had shot up, so we dropped $300 on this pile oh steel: and, spent all day out in the garage, cutting and welding, came up with this: Today, I've got about 10 more welds to do, and this thing will be bomb proof. Then, I've got a hunk of steel coming for the top, and a Craftsman tool chest that fits underneath. After that, building a welder stand, and drill press stand.

So, just finished wire-brushing all the slag off it, and picked up some primer, and glossy black paint for it. Got to finish the welds, the paint. ;D Beleive it or not, it's the same size as the wooden one in the pics.

I personally would put some castors underneath the legs for full table movement............that way you could work outside on nice days too!! ;D

Just pop open the garage, and i'm good as outside. Also, 2 problems, my driveway is on a slant, and this thing weighs about 300 Lbs.

I'd hate to burst your bubble, but the second you try to put something on that bench, it's going to fall through! ;D What shoddy workmanship!

OK, so the toolbox came last night, a 16 dwrar thingey with locking doors to cover it. Looks pretty good, needs a good dusting.
Got the wheels to do the welder stand, 6 inch casters that can support 500 lbs, so should have no problems.
Top is coming tomorrow, 1/4 inch mild steel, bent with a backsplash and overhang.
Man, i'm excited. ;D

I realized how much more usfull steel would be. This way, I can make jigs by welding to the top, rather then another peice.

nicely done. that thing is a brick **** house. I have a worktable with a stainless top myself but it is put on banquet table legs. I used to bring it as my pit table as it has a lip all the way around. that is awesome as no parts fall off that way.

The top is 1/4 inch mild steel, and I thought it was sturdy already. but with the top on, it doesn't move when i kick it. Stupid tremclad primer takes 72 hours to dry.
