Smello Well i did it . I turned my back on the savage and joined the REVOlution. to some degree. . As i type im finishing the foc and the BIG BLOCK(thats right say it again but this time in that montser truck announcer voice BIG BLOCK) conversion kit install. Revo with the heart of a savage hee hee . you see i was running that sirio .27 in my savage and since the .25 nitro star was laying around (about 10-13 gallons through it) and radio control car action ran that article about tricking that motor out i said what the hell ive done it with jetskis and sleds lets experiment . Me likey . with hpi`s engine exchange program and the way this things sounds now this could be a happy marrige. that little power plant wakes up once you let it breath. ITs all been on the bench and mostly break in so far but (from memory) it revs much cleaner idles smoother and the rpm gain is stronger. as for longevity we will see. Im thinkin practice and run heats with the nitro star and once the rebuild is done on the sirio it will make a great motor for the mains and just plain shredding the drive train. i ran the gammit- opend and polished the ports, trimmed and polished the crank ,trimmed the pistion and and took all 3 shims out of the head. motor was already out, took about 4 hours on the dremel and polish wheel (for the crank). all said and done not that hard if your thinking of giving it a go and you have a nitro star kicking around try it its worth it.) You will need a mic a depth gauge and some other tools but they aint that pricey and what you can do with them turns $80 rtr stockers into $500 racing mills. I have not run either motor on the truck yet but will tell you a rather tired sirio is getting bolted in right now to give this thing (and me) a little shake down run . as soon as the rebuild kit gets here for it then it hits the bench and in goes the moded .25 i should be able to give it a shake down thursday and count on me getting it together for this weekend (im holding my breath for good weather and that ill be able to afford what this sirio does to these plastic drive shafts.) ;D So if anyone else is thinking along the revo/bblock vain and might want to trade some ideas let me know i have plenty more than i have time to type out here. In perticular how im gonna start this thing cant wait to try it. oh and pics will follow as soon as i can put the revo down and load some software on my pc for the digi cam. cant wait to dive into this suspension whooo whee its gonna be gooood. proggressive = agressive .lmfao all the way to the winner circle. boo ya baby

Hey! great I'd ike to see how the nitrostar 25 is running. Bet it'll be . I've done alot of work on the 21bb on my buggy. I think we've spoken often at the track? To help even more I think the Sirio carb will fit on the savage engine. The 9mm venturi will give it that little bit extra power.

oooh i have some ideas for the diffs and a locker aint one of em . i like to turn . i have done more than a little snooping around and have some plans as to what will be going into this drive train and while i appreciate the input im looking for ppl with first hand experience with revo`s and big blocks not anyones tales of someone elses woes`. Truggy lover From what ive seen traxxas put the money into this truck in the areas that even a racer wont really mod out (engineering side) and less on the parts that anyone whos gonna race is gonna swap out for thier perticular running conditions. ie: most of your running gear from motor to hex hubs. so ya as soon as i thought about this truck and any engine mod i went looking for drivetrain options . and thats what sold me on this truck, nothing comes close to what i can do with this thing . i see ways to make the drive train strong enough so it will be the main chassis ill be worried about twisting from all the tourqe im gonna drop in it. This suspension can be set up in ways that no truggy no savage and very few real machines can, supple and light at speed down the straight and still take huge hits with progression . all professional off road racers strive for 2 things more suspension and more power than the other guy. Its the only form of racing were there really is no fine balance if you can find a way to go faster and not bottom out while still keeping the rubber in the dirt you leave the other guy behind . ppl can argue centre of gravity and total vehicle weight and all that **** till they turn blue for all i care . this is dirt all that matters is power to weight ratio and just how much suspesion travel can i put on the track and still corner . I for one am also a truggy lover those low slung low riding truggys, its gonna be fun landing on them whilst quading

well now that the mud has been slung and its hit my windshield time to bring out the guns blasting. hehehehe. No more small block for me. I am running a .23 is thing thing here called a revo. Using TSAIS steel cvds all around except for the front where the stock drive train is coupled to a one way for some killer turning radius. No drivetrain issues here. Trying to find a way to keep the wheels bolted up to this rocket is more of a problem then blowing any diffs or driveshafts. Hey Canuck any suggestions or info you might have or need in regards to revo just hit me up. I have seriously been looking at that nice center diff in the mugen MBX5 and was wondering, hmmm wouldnt that go nice in place of the tranny more to come...

ya i like that centre diff idea . gonna put thought to that soon. im gonna go look for a forum post i found somewhere about using one steering servo and getting better response time . somthin to do with amp load and bla bla . im hopefull as i have started to mock up a large capacity alloy fuel cell/ batt holder and radio box and would like to be able to displace some of the lbs the fuel and alluminum will pack on.
Is that the one way that sits in the middle of the tranny and front diff ? was thinkin that was a goody to get . and other than the cv`s you runnin stock diffs ? i was thinkin i saw a way to get 4 spider gears in there if its not already getting done ?

hmmm, I have an extra diff in my tool kit, I will open her up and see what can be done with it. My diffs have held up very well for me so I havent really looked in to replacing them with 4 gears. But if its possible that would be a good upgrade, durability wise. The cvds are the only upgrades I have done to the drivetrain.
I am just wondering though about the center diff thing for the revo. The engine is offset to the side and not sure how far over the dif would be sitting. If its too far over the cvds will not line up.

ya at the moment im leaning more towards bolt on and minor dremel mods . major reworking can wait till im at the back of the pack . right now i just want to see what it will take to get this frankenrevo to give me 20mins run time and not explode at wot . and i gotta tell ya this is the most fun ive had in a while and its been raining lateley , look out side it aint rainin . refill these shocks , locktite some bolts and..... might make the track by 2

I just had my diffs open for a fluid change and they are tiny in a big way. Don't know if there's even room for extra gears Once I see if (I say if) these REVO diffs hold up then I might have to transplant my WASP 26 in there Until then , I'll whoop yer arse with the small block ;D And if that doesn't work I'll bring out the big guns

well so far the revo has liked the sirio . put a gallon through it and not one major issue . even took it to the motocross track in chilliwack yesterday and took some good spills over the big double . fun fun . i was landing further down the transfer than my budy on his yz250f lol. with the big pipe that combo could be a little to much for our track . it had enough to go inside a 250f in second through a berm and would hold ground as he shifted to 3rd and we ran the small woops at 4th he matched it and began to pull away as i just couldnt keep the truck on the ground and in the power at that speed on the woops. my only complaint is that motors port layout and overall compression (while making huge power) dont lend it well to methods of starting that include a oneway bearing. it eats em . it doesnt really hydrolock but sucks in enough liguid fuel that it significantly ups the compression and munches oneways . so in goes the ported and polished .25 i figure this truck is 4plus pounds lighter than the trim i was running my savage in . that its gonna drive differently is a given . that 4lbs at speed represent alot more kinetic energy and it shows . im driving in a fashion that was spinning hexes like crazy on that heavy savage . revo does fine . im set up softer but the truck can take bigger hits and not bottom . its all i guy can want .
