The City has informed us that we are being singled out for criticism for not adhering to the terms of our Facility Use Agreement because we are the only group that has had complaints lodged against it by other groups or individuals.
We felt that it was rather cheap for WCRCAF members to complain to the City about cars on the track during afternoons when we did not have the track booked, since afternoon track use did not conflict with fixed wing use. The helicopter group had no problems with any RC track use. It has only been the fixed wing group (WCRCAF) that has registered any complaints. Also it was interesting that WCRCAF had no complaints about helis using the field at improper times. Their righteousness is only directed toward the car group. They have even gone so far as to complain that the track is being used when they observe cars parked along the road beside the track, even though nobody was at the track or using the track at the time.
However, the City informed us that the complainants were not looked upon as sh_t disturbers, but rather as concerned and responsible citizens reporting incidents that were contrary to posted rules and regulations.
We informed the City that we would also try to be "concerned and responsible citizens" by informing the City whenever we observed improper or unsafe facilty use.
To that end we are requesting all Kamikaze track users to be vigilant about any misuse of the fields at Upper Coquitlam River Park. Please take the time to email Kathy Reinheimer at kreinheimer@coquitlam.ca if you observe anything untoward happening at the Upper Coquitlam River Park.
MAAC guidelines prohibit flying over or along roads, over spectators, over parking lots, over the gravel pit across the road, etc. Since MAAC feels such flyovers are unsafe, you should feel unsafe if a plane flies over you. If you happen to arrive early for a race, take the time to walk along the road, parking lot, or bleachers while the planes are flying. Report to the City any unsafe flying that you observe.
Also report any fixed wing planes flying outside the times posted on the signs. Report any flying without the orange safety fence in place - since the WCRCAF website says it should always be up when anyone is flying. Report if the warning signs are not in place when anyone is flying. Report any fires you may observe at the flying field.
Don't feel you shouldn't report something just because you know someone else is reporting it. It would help the cause to have numerous reports of infractions/unsafe conduct.
Feel free to use this thread to list the infractions you observe.
